A lapped dovetail is a dovetail joint in essence but there is one substantial difference. The dovetails are hidden from the front due to a thin piece of material. The joint is perfect for use in drawer construction as the joint can be hidden from view when completed correctly. A lapped dovetail is often the most common method of dovetail jointing.
A lapped dovetail joint can be dismantled by applying forces as shown in the video. The joint is extremely resistant to tension due to the shape of the dovetails.
